Terms and Conditions of Memberships
5. MEMBERSHIP
Membership shall be of three types:
5.1. Individual
Membership shall be available to any individual interested in the teaching of Women’s Studies and Gender Studies, whether a practising teacher or not.
5.2. Institution
5.2.1. Membership shall be available to any organisation or school.
5.2.2. Such membership to be known as Institution shall count only as a single membership and shall not confer any rights or privileges on an individual.
5.2.3. An institutional member may nominate a representative to vote on its behalf at general meetings.
5.3. Associate
Membership shall be available to students of tertiary institutions and to such individuals entitled to concessions (e.g. unemployed and retired).
6. ENTRY
6.1 Admission
Those applicants admitted to membership by the Association’s Committee in accordance with these Rules will be Members of the Association.
6.2 Eligibility
To be eligible for membership an individual or institution must meet the criteria outlined in the membership categories. The decision of the Association’s Committee on the eligibility for membership shall be final and at the sole discretion of the Committee.
6.3 Procedures
Procedures for application and admission will be determined by the Association’s Committee
6.4 Rights of Members
Provided they are also Financial Members, all members will have the right to one vote at all Association general and special meetings.
6.5 Termination
Any member will cease to be a Member if they resign from membership of the Association by notice in writing to the Committee or cease to be a financial member
6.6 Expulsion
The Committee may expel a member for just cause. The member has the right to appeal to the Committee who may, upon hearing the appeal, reverse its decision. Once the Committee has reviewed the appeal, its decision shall be final and not subject to any further appeal.
6.7 Register of Members
The Committee shall cause to be kept and maintained a register of Members in which shall be entered the full name, address and date of entry of the name of each member and the register shall be available for inspection by members at any General Meeting.
6.8 EFFECTS OF MEMBERSHIP
Member Obligations: Members acknowledge and agree that:

the Rules constitutes a contract between each of them and the Association and that they are bound by the Rules and By-Laws

they shall comply with and observe the Rules and the By-Laws and any determination or resolution which may be made or passed by the Committee

the Rules and the By-Laws are necessary and reasonable for promoting the Objects of the Association
-
they are entitled to such benefits, advantages, privileges and services of the Association upon such conditions as are prescribed (for each category of membership) under these Rules and By-Laws.
7. SUBSCRIPTION
7.1 Annual Subscription
7.1.1 An annual subscription shall be paid by individual, corporate and associate members.
7.1.2 The subscription may be scaled as recommended by the Committee according to the class of the membership.
7.1.3 The amount of subscription shall be determined by the members at an annual general meeting or at a special general meeting called for the purpose.
7.1.4 Associate members shall pay a subscription of not more than half that of an individual membership.
7.2 Non Payment of Subscriptions
Any member whose subscription is in arrears by:

Three (3) months in any financial year shall be dealt with by the Committee in accordance with any By-Laws or with a notice of overdue fees which outlines that they have ceased to become a financial member and

Six (6) months in any financial year shall automatically cease to be a Member of the Association and shall forfeit all rights and claims upon the Association (“Lapsed Member”). Procedures for the lapsing of membership shall be determined by the Committee
